A Cruel Ultimatum
Chapter 12: A Cruel Ultimatum
The street outside the restaurant buzzed with the energy of the evening, the glow of streetlights casting a soft illumination over the scene. Kendra and Lynch walked arm in arm, their laughter mingling with the ambient sounds of the city. Suddenly, Lynch came to a stop, his hands cupping Kendra's face as he leaned in to kiss her.
Kendra's response was polite but reserved. "That was nice," she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Lynch grinned, his confidence undeterred. "There's more where that came from," he promised, his tone dripping with charm.
"I hope so," Kendra replied, a hint of anticipation in her voice as they resumed their stroll.
Lynch steered the conversation towards their evening together. "So, did you like the restaurant?" he inquired, eager for Kendra's approval.
"I loved it," Kendra replied, trying to match his enthusiasm.
"And the wine?" Lynch pressed on.
"Fabulous," Kendra affirmed, feeling a sense of giddiness creeping in.
As Lynch continued to shower her with compliments, Kendra's mood shifted from anticipation to discomfort. When Lynch suggested they retire for the evening and get to know each other intimately, Kendra hesitated.
"Abraham, that's moving a little too fast for me," she protested, her unease palpable.
But Lynch's demeanor changed abruptly, his expression turning stern. "Kendra, I meant what I said before. When I see something I like, I go after it," he stated firmly. "Do you mean to tell me that you have something better to do than spend a romantic evening with me?"
As Lynch moved in closer, Kendra pushed him back, her frustration bubbling to the surface. "You egotistical, pigheaded—"
But before she could finish her sentence, Lynch cut her off with a chilling ultimatum. "No honey, no money," he declared, his tone cold and calculating. "If you and I aren't shaking and quivering in the next twenty-four hours, your boss, my friend, is going to get a recommendation from me. And you won't like it. You decide."
With that, Lynch hailed a taxi and disappeared into the night, leaving Kendra frozen in shock and disbelief. As the reality of his request sank in, she dropped her face in her hands and cried, the weight of his words crushing her spirit.
